Just a report on how the rifle and pistol portion of this year’s Firemen’s Olympics went for us. The team events went great. Mike Rodela (retired out of 105’s) teamed up with Brian Rodela (Mike’s son who works at LA County 129’s), took gold in Action Pistol, silver in Rimfire Pistol, silver in Center Fire Pistol, and bronze in High Power Rifle.
High Power Rifle started off on Monday morning. Brian shot his tack shootin AR and Mike shot his M1 Garand. Mike’s target looked like a shotgun was used at 100 yards and Brian’s looked like there wasn’t an X ring left. Mike tried hiding his targets in the trash before they could be scored, so as to try and go unnoticed. When the scoring was over, Brian knew Mike hadn’t been scored and demanded his pop get the targets OUT OF THE TRASH for scoring. After the scoring, Brian went gold, and team Mike & Brian came out with a bronze medal. I guess you could say Brian took his dad out of the trash and brought him into medal.
The rest of the tournaments went the same way. The Rodelas scored well in Action Pistol to take gold, and took silver in both Center Fire and Rimfire Pistol. By the way, you can re-use Mike’s 50 yard target in Center Fire Pistol next year.
