The Life & Accident Fund provides life insurance and a permanent disability benefit for Relief members. The coverage begins the day you sign-up for it (you must enroll before you’re off probation). Upon the death of a member in good standing, the beneficiary will receive a $12,000 death benefit.
After 20 years of paying the assessment, you may withdraw the total amount paid, plus 7% simple interest (if these funds are not withdrawn, the $12,000 death benefit will be paid to the designated beneficiary).
Life & Accident participation requires an assessment of $5 per month ($2.50 per paycheck). After 20 years of assessments, deductions will no longer be required.

Cemetery Plots
The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association has some cemetery plots now available to dues-paying members in good standing, for a cost of 50% of the current market price. A second plot may be purchased by a member, spouse or domestic partner at the time of this initial need for future use by the member, spouse or domestic partner at the same price. Internment orders for reserved property will be signed at the time of need.
Alternatively, and if applicable, a dues-paying member in good standing is eligible for the irrevocable, one-time use of their $12,000 Life & Accident benefit (only if it has matured to 20 years and they participated in this optional benefit) as a credit for payment towards a plot owned by LAFRA, if the member opts in writing to apply such amount, before their death, to the purchase of a plot.
A member only may purchase a maximum of two (2) plots at the 50% discount from current market value.
If a member does not exhaust the full amount of the Life & Accident Benefit towards the purchase of the LAFRA plot(s), their beneficiaries will receive the remainder of these benefits.
