The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association provides a death benefit for members in good standing of $5,000, given to the named beneficiary after the member passes away. As a member of the Relief Association, you and your dependents may access additional services during this difficult time. Along with the LAFD Chaplains, we can assist members and families during periods of bereavement with counseling, guidance and funeral arrangements.

The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association has some cemetery plots now available to dues-paying members in good standing, for a cost of 50% of the current market price. A second plot may be purchased by a member, spouse or domestic partner at the time of this initial need for future use by the member, spouse or domestic partner at the same price. Internment orders for reserved property will be signed at the time of need.
Alternatively, a dues-paying member in good standing shall be eligible for an irrevocable, one-time use of their $5,000 death benefit as a credit for payment towards the plot owned by LAFRA, if the member opts in writing to apply such amount, before their death, to the purchase of a plot. If the member choses this option they will NOT have to pay their own money for the plots and then wait for reimbursement from LAFRA.
A member only may purchase a maximum of two (2) plots at the 50% discount from current market value.
If a member does not exhaust the full amount of the Death Benefit towards the purchase of the LAFRA plot(s), their beneficiaries will receive the remainder of these benefits.
