On Sunday, May 23rd family, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate the retirement of Firefighter Eric Dillon. He served 32 years on the job. Graduating in 1988 from the Drill Tower, Eric spent his probation at Station 34 and Station 14 before setting up a permanent residence at Station 15 in 1989. There, he remained until July 2016. After a brief stint at Station 86, Eric moved to Station 69 where he remained until he officially retired on April 27th, 2021.
There was plenty of laughter and story exchanging going around as the festivities kicked off with Brett Davis emceeing the event. Between a slide show of photos, presentations by various department professionals commending his performance and “patient whisperer” ways, and his fellow Gangreen teammates getting up (in costumes of course) to give a heartfelt and comedic send-off, a good time was had by all. Perhaps one of the best and most impromptu moments was Glen Potter taking the stage to get up and lead the crowd in singing, “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Happy Retirement Eric or “Dilly” as he fondly became to be known at the station. Enjoy this next adventure and thank you for your dedication and service during the past 32 years.
