Jim and I worked together as rookies at FS 22 at Vernon and Main when it was know as Fire City. That Summer of ’68 hell broke loose over a weekend of rotting. We were formed into a “Task Force” (a new term at that time) of 5 engines, a truck and BC. We responded as a unit and went from fire to fire. And then, it was over as fast as it started. Later we were neighbors in Smith Valley, NV. One night I was headed to town I came upon an auto accident that just occurred. As I was attending to a trapped patient, Jim stuck his head in and ask what he could do? Imagine that, two retired LA City firemen first on scene in rural Nevada. What were the chances of that? I’m sorry to he has passed and hope it was peaceful. God Speed, Jim.

Thank you Jim for your kind words. It’s wonderful to hear the stories from his friends and co-workers.
I was Jim’s neighbor back in 1969 in Westchester, CA and eventually married his younger brother Al.
Fondly, Judy Hall
JAMES JURE says
I worked with Jim on the Baldwin Hills fire July 2, 1985. At first we staged the recall out of 40’s and we soon were directed to old 54’s. There was a big brush fire going on, thus the need for addition staffing. Jim was the engineer, Capt Harbor and Steve Hanson out of old 48’s and Jimmy Horomoto out of 49’s. I was assigned to old 53’s. Who knew we would be dispatched on the first alarm assignment to the Baldwin Hills fire. Right out of quarters the smoke appeared to be a giant weather front. I learned a lot that day. Jim was and excellent engineer and I always admired him. My condolences to the Hall family.
Rest in Christ, brother Jim and fellow engineer.

Jim and I were classmates, and then worked together at “Old 4’s”. I remember Jim as a quiet guy and a hard worker and a good Fireman.
RIP Jim

I’m a little late with my condolences but found this while Googling the names of old friends that I had lost touch with. I believe this is the same James Hall I knew in the early 60’s. He had a red beard and a cool pickup truck.. We knew him as “Bud”. We both were drafted about the same time. He was sent to Germany and I ended up at Fort Riley, Kansas. I took leave to fly around Europe courtesy of the military and looked him up in Germany.
In late 1965 he had finished up with the Army and was driving home by crossing the country. He intended to stop and surprise me with a visit at Fort Riley. He was driving west on I-70 when he amazingly spotted my car headed in the opposite direction. He turned around and found me having lunch with a buddy in Topeka. Imagine my surprise when he saw him approaching with a big grin on his face.
I was transferred by my company to NY not long after I got out of the Army and we only met up a few times after that. He was living in Westchester and had become a fireman. I was rarely in LA after that and sadly we lost touch. Wouldn’t have happened if we had email back then.
He was a good friend and great guy.
