Greg was quite a firefighter. An old school firefighter and throwback to when many lifetime firefighters had second jobs and businesses. I landed at 96’s as a 2 year FF transferred out of a busy assignment due to new rookies. As first disappointed but then after finding my footing came to enjoy the cast of characters at 96’s, and Greg was one of them. Greg was a partner in Des Baillets Plumbing. He drove a Porsche 928 and built a custom home in the Malibu Hills. I learned much from him on firefighting due to his deep understanding of construction and how to de-construct houses and businesses, since that’s what we did many times while over hauling after a fire. As young firefighter’s if we took the time to sit and listen to many of our veteran FF’s like Greg, there was much to be learned about life. Not just firefighting, but also how to be a good father, husband and friend. Rest in peace Greg, I appreciated the years we had together working and laughing. By the way Greg had a bad Porsche 928 before anyone even knew what one was. :).

Greg and I were drill tower classmates, and, as we later figured out, both Journeymen plumbers prior to joining the Fire Department. We ran accross one another many times on the job, but never had the chance to work together. Greg was a class act on and off the job, and his reputation preceded him where ever he was assigned. Until we meet again, God speed my friend.
