Doug’s hearty laugh and well-spun tales were only exceeded by his genuine caring for those he served, and those who served with him. I was honored to be among the latter, and to have him as a friend and mentor. Rest easy Doug, you’ve made this world a better place.
Sheila MacDonell says
I worked with Doug on the receiving end, giving me my patients in the Er, we laughed learned together. .you will be missed

Hi, Brian. How are you? I see your name in the newspaper all the time, so I hope you don’t mind me coming to you. My name is Danny, & I am a Central Tech @ “St. Northridge.” In Central, we are also Ortho Liaison’s, so that is where I get my E.R. Exposure, + I also provide intricate medical supplies. But, this isn’t about me: It’s about “Doug the Slug,” as I called him. What everybody is posting is 100% Accurate. However, I do not see this, & THIS is a Quality I admired about Doug, & he even used it on me too. Screw around with him, try to play him, not being straight with him, & he could be a “Steel Wall!” if I hammed it up a little @ the Hospital, he had NO Qualms about telling me to “Lighten up,” or “Knock it off!” However, My Mom had ALS, & when I was going through those Trials, My people took up a Collection for me, & on the Card, there was this note: “A Little help from a Friend, Doug Robb. FS 100.” I got to know him a little better, & he always Kicked my Ass @ Crickett, {The Dart Game: Not the Forefather to Baseball,} & They also invited me to their Opening Day Fishing Trip in the Sierra’s, which is what Doug the Slug & one of his Best Friends, whom I am not sure would want me to mention his name so I won’t, & in turn when I treated him to a Dodger Game in my Season Seats, Doug was very content but i was the one that felt Honored.
I can’t do much, bit do I send a Check to the Address provided in memory of Doug Robb? Thanks for your time, Brina, Sincerely: Danny Goodwin.

Danny,
Thank you for the heart-touching stories about Doug – who clearly cherished your friendship. Sharing these memories is priceless, and for that we all are grateful. Though no public memorial events were planned, we encourage you to join the many of us who will raise a glass and offer a smile in Doug’s honor when we count into a game of darts, cast a line into a clear mountain stream – or join those who have amassed in Chavez Ravine to cheer on the Boys of Summer.
While your friendship is all that Doug could have asked for, a small tax-deductible donation in his honor:

…would be a fitting way to support others in his name.
Thanks Danny. You brightened my day, and that of many other LAFD members.

I remember responding many times with Doug on many calls, he was always professional and maintained the high standards of the LAFD as he performed his duties. I hope that his example somehow resonates to the newer generation of members serving our community.
