I got an over time at 50’s David was preparing for inspection. Worked together a couple of hours He mentioned he was retiring and moving away.. Several months later he moved in across the street. We talked about the old days mostly. He was a good neighbor.

Davy was an engineer in my 1st House (FS50) and respected by all. He could maneuver that old Crown through the hills of Batt 2 as if it were a Honda Civic, and everyone liked him. He was such a nice man. If I’m not mistaken, pics of him were all over the Drill Manual (Vol #3), throwing ladders and demonstrating tools/equipment.
RIP, Davey, and Godspeed to your family.
Dave Breuer (proud son) says
David J. (“Dave”) Breuer lived a full and happy 89 years. He and his beloved wife Dottie were married 71 years until her passing in 2022. He was a devoted and loving family man. Dave and Dottie had two children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dave was always there for all three generations, attending family events, school ceremonies, sports games, etc. He was always kind and understanding.
Dave was proud to be an LA City Firefighter for 31 years. He retired as an Engineer from Station 50. In later years, he admitted that he retired too early because, as he put it, “It’s fun to be a firefighter!”
Dave loved the outdoors. He was always in great shape and lived life to the fullest. He played football, baseball and basketball at Eagle Rock High School, was an accomplished handball player during his years at LAFD and loved to play golf and softball. He played softball into his 85th year!
When Dottie became ill in 2021, Dave poured his heart, soul and remaining physical strength into caring for her. When she passed in October 2022, he had emptied his tank. He was 100% mentally acute to the end of his life, but he was physically no longer able to be active.
He passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, in the presence of multiple generations of family members. Gracious to the end, his final words, spoken 15 minutes before he passed, were “Thank you for coming to see me.” Dave, thank YOU for everything you did for your entire family. You are a true role model and inspiration.

This is an outstanding tribute to Dave. I had the privilege to work with him at Fire Station 50 in the early 80’s. We played a lot of handball and great times off duty at the track.
Dave was one of the best Engineers I came across in my 33 years on the LAFD. His loyalty and dedication to the the Department was “Second to none”.
Rest assure he impacted many because of his personality and work ethic.
I am proud to have known David. He will truly be missed.
My condolences to his family and everyone who had the honour to have known him.

From his family: thank you for your comments. There will be a Celebration of Life for Dave in December. We will post the details about one month beforehand.

I promoted to engineer and was assigned to FS-50 in 1984. I was Dave’s relief not the other way around. He was a calming voice to a new guy that had to much energy. As Jerry pointed out he was a Batt. 11 guy that was in a lot of Vol. 3 training segments. So as Spiclio said in Fast Times “i know that Dude”. What a great example for a new engineer. It felt like you were trying to get his wink of approval. I am so glad I had the good fortune to promote to FS-50 and work with Dave.
