…Dave was a LAPD Cop for a Few Years (Motor Officer) & Saw the light to come over to the LAFD, I worked with Dave @ FS88 in the Early ‘80’s, Dave was one of the Heavy Equipt. Operators @ LAFD Tractor Company, VERY TALENTED Fireman, He Produced Pool Pumps for citizens living in the Mountain Fire District, REST EASY DAVE!!!

I loved working with Dave. I was a Fireman and Engineer at 88’s and had the greatest memories with all who put up with the ‘3 ring circus’ known as 88’s. The tractor guys Dave, Don, and Chris got their Tractor Unit reduced but made the best of their loss. At relief in the morning they sat waiting for anybody to stroll into the kitchen and you received the best rips of the day! Even the A/C’s and B/C’s were called on ‘bout putting washers in the coffee can instead of a dime..
Dave’s best story he told was when he was an LAPD Motor prior to getting on. Pulled a dude over for speeding and the guy had an attitude. Dave took his license, opened up his saddlebag and dipped it in a peanut butter or Mayo jar and ate it in front of the guy. Classic Dave!
Sad to hear about the loss of such a great guy to be around. RIP Davey.

As a new A/O at 39’s, I really enjoyed my SOD days at 88’s primarily because of Dave. He was so enjoyable to talk to, and as Dave Rowley said, he loved his LAPD motor days and had a wealth of stories about his pre-LAFD days that would drop you to your knees laughing. I could also tell he loved his tractors by the way he talked about them, the various tactics he employed, and how he maintained them. Dave was a good man.
RIP, Dave, and Godspeed to your family.

Davy Shields was a seasoned, salty, and humorous Fireman on the Tractor Company at 88’s.
Dave, Don, & Chris were knowledgeable, resourceful, and outspoken but always professional. My Condolences to the Shields Family.
Rest Well, Sir!
