Dale was my first Chief in the field (1972)in Batt. 8. He was well-liked and easy to work for. He showed us how to have fun while at work. RIP brother.
Dale was my first BC when I made Captain in 1977. I was the Captain “‘0” on HD Task Force 61 and very excitable as a youth officer. Dale was always happy and had a smile that put you at ease while still being the man in change. A real Gentleman. Very much in the same manner as his study partner, BC Arch Morgan. Great leaders from a bygone era.
Dale Kanagy was my captain at “Old” Engine 6 in November, 1964; my first assignment. What a great way to begin a long career, under the leadership of a fine officer. He had a good crew, kept the b.s. to an absolute minimum, ran a good company. I kept his leadership in my mind over the years; a good example to follow. A real gentleman!
I have very fond memories of my Uncle Dale and it is heart warming to see the sincere comments on this page. Thank you.
Dale was a wise and knowledgeable firefighter’s chief. As his Aide for many years I was aware that he always had good things in mind for the members under his command. He was calm under pressure both firefighting and dealing administratively with all situations. He was the “best Man” at my wedding and we have remained close pals for many years, he will be greatly missed be me and my family. Rest in peace old buddy!!!
