I really enjoyed my friendship with Cosby. Always a great conversation about investing, real estate and travel. It was always fun to try to convince him to splurge on himself. May he Rest In Peace.
I Enjoyed talking with Cosby, He liked practicing his Spanish language with me. talking finance, real estate, Construction, he was always questioning my flying and instructing of our co-workers. Rest in peace Cosby.
Rest in peace Cosby….enjoyed working with you at FS 5 .
I am sadden to hear of Cosby’s passing. What a wonderful man and person. As Roy had indicated, Cosby was on the frugal side. Cosby was in constant possession of a large cup with a handle, that was 32oz. The cup was from 7-Eleven and Cosby purchased it when 7-Eleven was running a promotion that stipulated, all refills with that cup were free. The cup was so old, it barely had any 7-Eleven markings on it but every shift you could count on at least one trip to 7-Eleven for Cosby’s free refill 7-Eleven might have lost money on Cosby but they made money on the rest of us buying sodas and slurpees, not because we were hungry but simply because we were there. My condolences to his family. Rest in Peace, my friend.
I met Cosby when I showed up at FS85’s with 18 months on the job and we have been friends ever since. He used to call me his number 1 son because I would listen to all of his stories and take his advise whenever he would speak; and he was full of wisdom and advise about any and everything. He was a mentor to all of the young firefighters that would listen. We used to walk around the block at FS85’s for exercise, Cos’ didn’t didn’t want to run because he would say “you only have so many heart beats” so why waste them exercising”. Yes, Cos’ was very frugal and yes he would pick up every penny he saw on the ground while we walked until an un named Engineer used “Botz dot” glue to glue pennies on the road and Cosby scraped his fingers bloody trying to pry those coins off the street. He used to tell me at the beginning of a segment “these guys think I’m cheap, but I just got back from England, my girlfriend wanted to see Phantom of the Opera, so we booked a red eye flight and stayed at a nice hotel. He would rather buy another piece of property than own a nice car. We would always say, “Don’t ask Cosby what time it was, cuz he would tell you how to build a watch” You will be missed my friend, your #1 son.
Retired Inspector II Robert Duff #444
Cosby had a different approach to life. From life at the Station, investments, travel and how he would pay his house dues bill. You could say Cosby was thinking outside the box.
I enjoyed our time at FS85.
It was a pleasure working with Cosby.
My condolences to the family.
I met Cos in 1999, when I transferred to FS 85, and was fortunate to work with him until his retirement. All of the messages posted here by his friends are all 100% accurate. 7-11, the pennies, the list is endless. I have a smile on my face thinking about those memories. We last spoke approx 1-2 months ago, he stated he was doing well, walking, and still picking up those pennies. He had so much knowledge, and if you were willing to listen, you could have learned a lot from this gentle giant. I will always cherish the memories I have of this great human being. I will miss our talks my friend. Rest in peace, Cosmo!
Cosby was a great conversational type of man. He was extremely knowledgeable about finances and travel. To say he was frugal, would be an understatement. He was a gentleman and will be truly missed.
Rest in power my friend
I had the pleasure of working with Cosby when I was assigned to Fire-station 85. When I really got to know Cosby he was a very friendly and funny person and yes he would always pick up coins when he would see them on the ground. When I transferred into Fire-station 85 Cosby took me under his wing to make sure that I would learned the job so that I could fit in with the experience crew that was already assigned to this station. I remember he was the first to teach me how to tiller a Fire truck and it was Challenging because every mistake I made he let me know about it. Thank you Cosby for your Critique. Just this past December 2021 my self and Retired Chief Harvey was sitting at the table enjoying our Xmas Party dinner with Cosby Turner and we had a great conversation and to hear this about Cosby Turner passing I was very saddened.
May you rest in Peace Cosby E Turner .
I had the pleasure to work with Cosby Turner for 8-10 years when I transferred into Fire station85. Once I got to know him he was very Friendly and Funny and took me under his wing to ensure that I could fit in with the experienced crew at Fire station 85 I thank him for that and yes he did pick up every coin that he saw on the ground. and would sometimes tell me to do the same. When my family would come visit me at the Fire-station my wife said that he looks like Billy Dee Williams and Cosby replied “yeah right When Cosby was up to cook we were in for a treat he put a lot of effort into his cooking skills and recipes that he had and he made sure that I was in the Kitchen helping him as the newest member , he also taught me how to tiller a fire truck and would let me know every mistake I made when he was teaching. Cosby would always say “stop over tillering you don’t have to move the steering wheel. that much”. I can hear his voice today. Just this passed December 2021 myself and the Retired Chief Roy Harvey was sitting at the table for our Annual Stentorian gathering enjoying our Christmas meal with Cosby Turner we had a conversation about spending money. it was very interesting on Cosby”s approach on spending money. Cosby Turner was like a brother that I had on the Fire Department. I looked forward to seeing him at our annual Christmas gathering. I am very saddened to hear of Cosby’s passing.
Cosby Turner rest in Peace/Heaven I have much love for you my Fallen Brother
may God rest your soul.
