So Sad to hear of Bruce’s “Blackie” passing. Worked for him at Fire Station 102-B. Ron Meador was the Captain ll and Blackie was the Captain l. You couldn’t have asked for a better group of leaders. Both of those Officers made it fun to come to work. Blackie definitely lived life to it’s fullest and didn’t leave a stone unturned. Blackie, “may the force be with you” and Ron on the other side. Rest in peace, my friend.

As an Engineer at 86’s I frequently drove Blackie when he worked SOD with us. He would say to me “you know the district and the routine around here so just take good care of me and everything will be fine”. Later we established on off-duty friendship which involved cribbage games (sometimes he would play with my grandson), Super Bowl parties at our home and occasional RV trips. He’ll be missed.
Sleep well, old friend

Blackie. In my 29 yrs as an Engineer, you were one of the most “seasoned “ and amiable Capt’s I ever had the the honor and pleasure to drive .
I was on the “A” @ TF102 and you the”B” . My 26 yrs @ 102 afforded me the time to work for the likes of Doug Murphy, Ray Case, just to name a few. The front seat couldn’t have been any better. Rest assured, the name you made for your self will not be forgotten.
Rest In Peace because you “Earned it”. And I will forever be thankful for our BS sessions, in the cab and tail board talk

Worked with Captain Blackwell at FS 102. I loved working SOD on the “B” shift with Captain Blackwell. It seemed he always had a smile on his face.
Captain Blackwell had won an auction on parts for Ford cars. Everything was suppose to be new and came individually wrapped. Captain Blackwell went on a run and we carefully opened the packages and replaced everything with dirty rusted parts we acquired. Captain Blackwell returned and was so excited to open his winnings. The look on his face when he saw the parts was priceless. As you would expect Captain Blackwell didn’t get upset he started laughing, that’s the kind of man he was.
RIP Captain Blackwell you will not be forgotten.

So sad to hear of Blackie’s passing. Blackie was the first fireman I ever met. So many great stories involving Blackie. I’ll see him again one day. He will be easy to find, I just have to look for the woody’s.
