The Firemen’s Relief Association’s medical coverage was discussed at the Los Angeles Fire & Police Pension Commission meeting on Thursday, June 16, 2022.
Agenda item #C7
Asking for approval to seek requests for proposal (RFP) for other companies to take over the administration of your retiree healthcare benefits, was discussed in detail at yesterday’s meeting. So far, we are happy with the outcome as the issue has been referred to an ad hoc committee, that will be appointed by the Board. This committee will be made up of 2 elected, and 2 appointed (by the Mayor) commissioners, and will work with the Associations to come up with resolutions on the issues all brought forward at the meeting.
A clear message was sent by LAFRA, LAPRA, UFLAC, PPL, and LARFPA throughout the meeting. The common theme was the retiree health plans we currently have in place are proven to be competitive, they are suitable to LAFPP, and most importantly they meet the needs of our retirees. For these reasons, we look forward to working with the “Ad Hoc” committee in hopes our plans are selected to continue providing retiree health benefits to our members.
The LAFRA Board of Trustees would like to thank you all for calling in and voicing your concerns, it was amazing to hear from a few of our “Survivors”. LAFRA will continue to keep you informed on this very important issue, as we work toward a final resolution with all the involved parties.
Sincerely,
Jeff Cawdrey
