I had the pleasure of working with Jim in the Disaster Preparedness Section from 2005 – 2009. Jim was a man of many talents and a true scholar of military history. If you worked with Jim, he made sure you knew that he had reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. I also served in the USAF, reaching the esteemed rank of Senior Airman. Although I was a CII in the Section, Jim was always quick to remind me that he basically outranked me, which I was more than ok with.
Rest in peace Colonel. and always remember to AIM HIGH.

Jim, you will be missed by all that knew and worked with you. It appeared that you were always working behind the scenes for the program being developed for the Disaster Preparedness Division, but in reality you were kind of the front man for your team. It was and it still is a pleasure to have worked and to have known you during those few years. Jim, you were always a Gentleman, usually and most times able to stop what you were working on to speak to me or anyone else about anything. I pray that your family will be at peace during this time and always in the years to come. God Bless.

Tom Ottman says
I was saddened to learn of the Colonel’s passing. Jeff, Tom and Bubba perfectly described Jim. He was a good caring man who gave his heart and soul to the LAFD and our Country. He always had time for his fellow firefighters and the public but most importantly, he treated everyone with respect. My condolences to his family.
