TO: ALL LAFD MEMBERS
The LAFD has received numerous inquiries from our retired members who would like to volunteer their services to assist the Department with the challenging task of vaccinating and testing the people of Los Angeles.
Members who possess a valid EMT or Paramedic license may assist in vaccinations. Members who have lapsed EMT or Paramedic certifications will be certified as Medical Assistants under the medical supervision of the Carbon Health organization.
Volunteers will work at Dodger stadium in increments of 12-hour shifts and be required to work a minimum of three days a week for one month. I encourage members to commit for longer periods of time if they are available. Members will be vaccinated one week prior to their start date and will receive the second dose approximately 28 days later.
Retired members interested in volunteering or who have questions are requested to email Captain II Christopher Bustamante at lafd.retired@lacity.org and include the following information:
- Last name, First name
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Currently EMT Certified / Paramedic Certified
- Date they are able to start
Once retired members sign up, Captain Bustamante will coordinate through the Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), a 2-hour virtual training, start date, and pertinent volunteer information.
Our COVID testing and vaccination efforts will be the most significant mission we will ever accomplish…not only in our fire service careers, but in our lifetimes.
I am extremely grateful to our retired members for volunteering to assist us in this mission and for proving once again that you will always answer the call for help when needed.
Stay safe,
RALPH M. TERRAZAS
Fire Chief
