I rode Truck 66 with Ronnie in 73-74. We never knew him as Thomas, it was always Ronnie. He had a great since of humor, and was a solid Fireman, and just a joy to be assigned with. He was also an extremely talented master welder. May God bless the Smith family with their loss!
Bud,
Thank you for the kind message about my dad. We are having a service next month for my dad and mom if you you are interested and available.

Ron was my mentor/trainer when I was promoted to the rank of Fire Inspector I. We both were assigned to the Public Assembledge (PA) unit under Battalion Chief Ronny Ressman. I would always have a difficult time keeping a straight face during fire inspections when I introduced Ron and myself. The occupancy owners would always roll their eyes back and laugh in disbelief as I would say ” I’m Inspector Jones and this is my partner, Inspector Smith”. Ron was a solid Fire Inspector who had a tremendous working knowledge of the Fire Code. Besides being an outstanding representative of the LAFD, Ron was an artist when it came to stainless steel and welding as mentioned by Bud Molle above.
My condolences to the Smith family
Mark,
It sounds like you two bonded over a healthy sense of humor. My dad loved to laugh and your message made me smile, so thank you for the message and kind words. We are having a service next month for my dad and mom if you you are interested and available.

I had the pleasure of working with Ron his last few years on the job. Ron had many quotes and quips about life that were brutally accurate.as well as hysterical. He could apply them in any given situation when dealing with the public. His quick witted delivery coupled with a dead pan expression was classic. He brought a lot of value and experience as well as common sense to the unit. Ron, I’m sorry you didn’t get to complete your “20 good years” in retirement as you use to say, but I’m sure you’ll get the “the Hallelujah package” you always spoke of! Rest In Peace.
Terrence,
Your message was a good encapsulation of my dad and we appreciate the kind words. We are having a service next month for my dad and mom if you you are interested and available.
