Scotty was the TFC at old’ 3s and a very confident leader. A fun guy to have as your friend. RIP
It’s with sad heart that I heard of the passing of Scotty Lenz. I first met Scotty at FS 15 where we were on opposite shifts. Our next meeting was when Scotty came to the “Sparkle Corps” at FS 9 on the B shift as the Captain I. He instantly fit in on all three shifts and loved going to nightly center-hall hotels and mattress fires! On Promoting to CII, he spent one shift as the TFC and was first-in on the Dearden’s Furniture Store Major Emergency. I’m sure this didn’t have anything to do with it, but the next shift he was transferred to old FS 3. However, fortunately for me, I was promoted to CI at the same time and ended working there with him as his secretary! Scotty loved nothing more than talking with the guys in the station, going to a good structure fire and keeping me awake the rest of the shift!
One of the benefits of Fireman having two families, is getting to know each other’s families. You haven’t lived until your invited to the Lenz’s house for Xmas with all the lights, decorations, tree, gifts and maybe “just one” on JULY 4TH!!
Ruby, Terry & Connie our thoughts & prayers are with you
Aw, Roger, that is so sweet. We feel the same about you and your family. I have many good memories.
This is so sad. Roger, I miss the HAZMAT days when we three worked together…. Hope you are well…

Scott was an awesome person and firemen, pants went on one leg at a time. RIP CHIEF May God bless you and your family. Mouse
Scotty was an LAFD treasure. If you worked for him you learned much and enjoyed every day. If you worked at Headquarters with him, he became your go to man and friend. All who knew him had their lives enriched.
May GOD keep him close.
Scott Lenz has been my best friend for over 50 years. One of my best memories of Scott was when we were working together at Fire Station 22 in the early seventies. FS 22 was the last High Pressure Station on the LAFD. Glen Dinger was our Captain, Scott Lenz was the Auto Fireman on the High Pressure, Bernard Olson (Ole) was the Engineer on the Triple, Murray Ames and I were the Firemen. When we received an alarm that was on the border on FS 10 and FS 22 we would leave quarters at warp speed to beat FS 10 and Captain Fickett to the incident. It was all Murray and I could do to hang on the the tailboard as we responded. And years later, when the Lenz’s bought property in Fallbrook, it inspired me to do the same so I found the perfect spot next to Scott and Ruby’s avocado/flower farm. After a hard, hot day on our farms Scott and Ruby would make a big dinner for all of us as we’d tell stories till late at night. So many fond memories with this larger-than-life man and his family. May God Bless Ruby and her daughters, Connie and Terry. And may God Bless Scott.
I meet Scotty and Ken Brass at a class at Harbor JC. We managed to muddle through. Luckly. we had breaks so that we could slide over to the Black Forest restaurant/bar and get sustenance and libations that would help us get through the class. I later was interviewed for planning. I barely got in his office, and he said, “you are my kind of man, pack your bags”. We did a lot of work in that office. We also had a lot of fun. Lenz taught me how to write a report that would please the higher ups and other City Departments. He also showed me his driving skills on the way to and from Mikes Sky Ranch in Baja. I won’t forget him. RIP
I had the pleasure to work on the Paramedic/Firefighter consolidation plan years ago. I appreciated how he treated me and listened to ideas. RIP
I will miss that smirk Scotty always seemed to have on his face. I was a fair man and I always looked forward to his station visits, unlike the rest of the crew. I sad to hear of his passing but have confidence that he is in a bette plan smiling down on us all!
