A gallant man with a quick but gentle wit, never seen without a smile on his face. Kind, confident, capable. The kind of person who you wanted to be at your side when the going got tough. His passing leaves a huge void – but also unparalleled inspiration among those fortunate to have known him. May he rest in peace.
We’ve lost a good man. He will be remembered for his confidence and kindness. Always dedicated to help and always willing to share his time.
We will miss you.
Rest in Peace my beloved friend.
I had the honor of serving with him in the recruit 11/98 recruit class of the Los Angeles Police Department. He was a kind, mild mannered, and intelligent man that always looked out for you. RIP brother.
What happened? I flew with him in the Guard…
I live in the neighborhood and walked by his house every day. We talked on numerous occasions, he duplicated the stairs on our hillside for his hillside and came to our house once to see how our deck was built. What a great guy, big, strong and according to my wife very good looking. I was totally shocked when I walk by his place on Monday to see all the Fire and Police activity. I still find it hard to believe, I’ll miss seeing and talking to this truly gentle giant man. May he rest in peace.
Jerry Dean
Hi Jerry,
I am a LACoFF. I was a pilot and Renier was one of my flight Engineers. We deployed to the Middle East together. Do you know the circumstances of his passing? He was a fantastic man and friend.
Regards,
Bob George
Robert George, I’m curious to know the same thing, too.
I was with Reiner (aka, Lou) at the 146th Airlift Wing adjacent to the Naval Air Station Point Mugu for a number of years. We shared MANY laughs, does, and dreams and goals. I miss my humble Brother amd was saddened to hear of his death.
I going to miss Reiner so very much! He was my very best friend the 10 years that we were together! May you rest in peace…
So sorry to hear about the passing of such great guy. We served in the California Air Guard and he was such a stand up guy. Rest in Peach and thank you for all of your years of service
It was not very long ago that I met Reiner. He immediately struck me as a kind, confident, man.
From our very first conversation it was clear that Reiner had a genuine passion to do right—to do good. He had an intense drive to help others and was very focused.
Reiner has helped an incalculable number of people in their times of need. I imagine many of them were put at ease just by being in Reiner’s presence. They most certainly would have found comfort in his strong, confident, and peaceful countenance.
Reiner must have been proud of his many accomplishments, but his sincere humility prevented him from calling attention to any of them. His accomplishments were for others and not for himself anyway. He was not motivated by recognition. I sense he was quietly but powerfully driven by his love for others.
It goes without saying that at UCLA he was a capable and successful student.
I will remember how Reiner carried himself in that decorous, stately way.
I feel fortunate to have met him.
Reiner worked for us in Battalion 17 as a Firefighter/Paramedic. His past military experience really allowed him to perform at an outstanding level in the LAFD. He was one of our shooting stars who faded out much too soon. He will be sorely missed by all! Rest in peace my friend.
Montiel was good hearted, well likable and humble individual . He was our superman during in the academy..was always positive on anything and everything. Rest in peace superman
I flew with him in the Guard as a flight engineer, too. He was such a smart, kind, man with a great heart. I remember he and I standing in front of a castle in Romania together. I am still in shock. Prayers to him, family, and all who’s life he affected. I guess he was unaware of how many lives he touched for the better.
Reiner, humility and kindness. Honored to have served in the Air Guard with him here in Ventura. Our travels together exposed me to a truly unique individual. By reading all of the comments from fellow co-workers and those who knew him, its obvious that we were all touched by Reiner. As usual, I’m at a loss on why God takes the best of us early. Condolences to all his family and to all who he touched.
I didn’t hear about this until yesterday. I am still in shock and can’t believe it. I hope he didn’t suffer as he lives in peace with God. I went to Germany with Rainer when we were in the guard and was a great person to be around. He always had my back and was a great maintenance guy in the tire shop. You could always depend on him when he wasn’t eating, that boy could eat. RIP YOU GENTLE GIANT.
Still missing you, Reiner. You are remembered by many.
Reiner, you were such an incredibly beautiful person. You never ceased to make me laugh and you were always so thoughtful and kind. I will miss you. Just wanted to share with you that I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. He would have loved you! Rest well Reiner. Until we meet again.
