I met Reid through my friendship with Wayne & Sue Wiesehan. Reid is Sue’s father. I had 7 years on the LAFD and recognized the pump engineer when I met him. I could see him at line-up doing the cross word puzzle in ink readers halfway done his nose as the Captain spoke. With one respectful but well placed observation on the new policy, the air was out of the ballon. He was that firefighter that gained respect not demanded it. Those were the firemen that we all wanted to be. No effort on his part just who he was. he will be missed and never replaced.

Reid and I never crossed paths during our time on the LAFD. I met him 7 years later after his retirement through my friendship with Wayne and Sue Wiesehan. Reid is Sue’s Father. When I met him I saw the classic pump engineer. I saw him at line-up crossword puzzle (ink pen) readers halfway down his nose but listening. The Captain informing the troops of a new policy and with one respectful but well placed torpedo the air was out of the ballon. Reid gained respect did not demand it. He was who we all wanted to be. I will miss him
