My time with Pete was all off duty. Although by reputation he was a dedicated, loyal & very competent fireman. Pete is a great guy and a special friend. We shared many great adventures & a ton of laughs. On road trips it was always easy and great fun sharring the wind with him. He was there to guide me along when I first started cross country rides. He always had the time, patients and flexibility to share his experience with the new kid. Rest In Peace Brother. You will be gravely missed.
Ed Tapia says
Pumper Pete and I worked many years together at Fire Station 20. We sat across from one another the dinner table and have been there for one another in good and bad times. I will miss my friend and may he rest in peace. It is a sad day for me…
Ken Meyer says
My Condolences to Pete’s Family, friends, and all who knew him. My memories of Pete go all the way back to when I was hired on the LAFD back in 1988 and worked with him at FS-13’s. I have so many great memories of him during my many years on this job. I spent many sleepless nights listening to Pete’s stories of salvage diving, work stories, and stories of life experience. He also, changed my first name to Oscar (Oscar Meyer). I hated it and he knew it, so I got called Oscar by all who knew me on this job. I will truly miss Pete he was a great Fireman and a friend. Rest in peace my friend and God Bless.
Your Friend,
Kenny (Oscar) Meyer
Nicole (Goff) Buss says
Dear Oscar, I mean, Kenny,
Thank you so much for sharing that story. That is SO my dad to give someone a nickname like that. You brought a smile to my face with that memory.
Sincerely,
Nicole (Goff) Buss, AKA Doodles (Nicole became Nikki, Nickers, Snickers, Snickerdoodles, Doodles) Lucky for me, he was the only one who called me that.
Raul Miranda says
Such sad news. Sincere condolences to the Goff family. Pete was an all around great guy. A tough gentleman that knew the true meaning of friendship and loyalty. The LAFD was better because of guys like Pete. Rest in Peace my friend. You will be deeply missed.

RIP Pete my Brother Firefighter, Fire Hog and Sgt-at-Arms for our club. You gave us guidance and shaped us into a motorcycle club, you cannot be replaced. This M/C owes a lot to you. Ride fast and safe with Tommie, Stamie, KStew and Wayne. My deepest condolences to your family and all who knew you.
NICHOLAS GARCIA says
PETE you had a happy go luck personalty, allways made time for everyone. You kept it all low key. you knew your job and did it well.
You too, left us way to soon. R I P buddy.
Tami Flaherty (aka Goldberg) says
I too was one of the ones that got a nickname, although how he got to Goldberg, is beyond all of us. But my heart is heavy, and my memories go back to sitting on the back porch at night talking about anything and everything. Some of the best times of my life.
Ethan Burlingame says
I also had the pleasure of working with Pete at 20’s as a second house rookie along with Ed Tapia, Don Witty, and some other LAFD legends. I really enjoyed my time there with those guys, and felt a true sense of loss when I learned he had passed. Pete was the guy after EVERY drill that ,on top of all the other stuff I didn’t know, had that one question I NEVER knew the answer to. He always kept me thinking no matter what we were working on. My nickname was Thurston because he said Burlingame sounded like an affluent British name like Thurston Howell III from Gilligan’s Island. To this day, when I’m disconnecting the battery at a traffic accident I can still hear him say “Whenever you’re trying to decide on which one of those cables to pull off first there Thurston, just remember…..Pete Goff is negative.” That was over 15 years ago, and it still makes me smile every time I do it. Gonna miss ya Pete.
Sincerely,
Ethan (Thurston) Burlingame
Nicole (Goff) Buss says
I just laughed out loud. I can literally hear my dad’s voice in this story. Thank you. Speaking of negativity, he used to tell us that while driving the engine through some of the rougher neighborhoods, locals would give you guys the “single digit peace sign.” Too many one-liners! I don’t know how he came up with them all!
Thanks for sharing the memory,
Nicole

I worked with Pete at 20’s and at 13’s while working SOD. Pete always kept me laughing. Great personality and all around good person. You will be missed.
Hector Marquez says
Pete and I transferred into FS13 on the same day due to a couple guys that got booted out for fighting. Pete said he died and had gone to heaven with this transfer to 13’s. I always said he was the best partner I’ve had on this job. He was very intelligent. I learned a lot from him. He was my mentor along with Mouse in becoming an Engineer. He was very entertaining. He’ll be missed!
RIP my friend
