This year, being the 47th consecutive year, and still the longest running tournament in Pebble Beach’s history, family and friends once again gathered to celebrate and enjoy each other in the So Cal Fireman’s Golf Association Tournament. With a field of 220 golfers, everyone made their way to Pebble Beach and Spyglass to compete for two days as partners and enjoy an experience like no other.
This would be the first year Tournament Director, Gary Klasse would be without his “Mary.” Everyone loved her so much! One of Gary’s best friends, Hank Raymond came up with the idea to dedicate hole Number 7 at Pebble to her. Most would say it’s the best par 3 in golf. As Gary teed it up, everyone could feel the emotion. With a great strike on the ball it traveled over the green into the back bunker. Impossible to get up and down from there, but with a little helping magic, and “Mary” on his side, he put the ball within inches of the hole for a kick in par. Thanking the heavens, he knew she was still looking out for him.
Stories like these are always happening at Pebble because it is truly an unforgettable experience. Not only are you in paradise but you meet people that end up becoming lifelong friends. If you are ever interested in attending, applications open April 5th. Last year the tournament was sold out in 2 weeks. Email gklasse@att for more information.
