I met George through handball. He was a real standup gentleman. Never had the opportunity to work with him but was told by many that he was fine officer. May he rest in peace.

I never got to work with George but I remember him at 10’s when I would visit my dad. He was one of the great guys I remember coming out of that station.

We met at FS 9 in 1962 and became Best Buddies. We worked together as Firefighters at 9′,s and 10’s and as Captains at 3’s. Ge0rge was a star athlete in high school and carried that attitude onto the LAFD hand ball courts and he knew that on any given day he could beat anybody, especially Pasos.. In reality, Jesse owned him. George never gave up on himself and fought for his life for many years . See you at the B’ig Handball Court

I was a rookie at 92’s in the late 70’s, George was on the “A” shift. I was 22 years old, the rookie before me had 12 years on! It was handball heaven. On probation I was literally “forced” to play multiple doubles games with all the old timers. Bruce Sahli, Bobby Laxague, Billy Williams, ….Davey Graff and… George Gasporra. The court was busy almost every day; Fregoso, Chrisman, Maga, Rohrbach, Kirkorn, …George always said he taught them all they knew! He was studying for captain at the time. Years later I ran into him at 95’s. Everyone knew he went by George, but they also knew his real name. The station mascot was an exotic lizard affectionately named “Maurice”. I don’t think captain Gasporra appreciated that. I’m thankful for George Gasporra. God bless the entire Gasporra family.

My final house on probation was F.S. 10 on the A shift. When I first entered the station, George met me and with a smirk said “oh boy, Daffy’s gonna eat you up”. George was a great guy and a part of a great crew at that Fire Station. I was sadden to read of his passing and pray for him on his journey to our Lord.
