I worked with Lou in the sixties at Fire Station 34. He nick named me “The Senator” in 1964 during the elections because of my support of Barry Goldwater. He was a good friend as well as a good engineer. We kept in contact after his retirement. The last time I say Lou was in Pomona before the fire that damaged his home. He, my mother, my wife and I went out to lunch at a place near his home. I lost touch with Lou after his home fire. I am sorry we were not able to keep in contact during the following years. We were assigned to 34’s during the transition time following the desegregation of the LAFD. It was not popular for a white firemen to befriend a black member of the department at the at time. Somehow he and I hit it off from the start. He was an interesting man who had a diverse knowledge on many subjects. We spent many enjoyable hours talking about a number of topics. It is a shame others did not have that opportunity. He owned several vintage automobiles, one of which sold in 2014 for over two million dollars. He had parted with it years before for forty-eight thousand. He was a good man and I considered him one of a handful true friend I had on the department. I will truly miss him and his good humor. Rest in peace Lou.
