Patrick Shanley says
I had the pleasure of working with Larry Roberts on two occasions at F.S. 33 in south central and F.S. 27 in Hollywood (both in the 1980’s).
Larry Roberts was the finest paramedic I ever met in my 34 years with the LAFD. His performance was uniformly outstanding, his attitude exemplary even under very trying conditions, his documentation the most extensive I ever saw, the example he set for younger members the greatest.
My wife (Chief Snuggums), still remembers how ecstatic Larry was after he delivered his first set of twins as a paramedic.
As a man and paramedic Larry was the GOLD standard to which I compared other LAFD members. Larry will be missed & long remembered by those who worked with him.

I had the honor of being one of Larry’s trainees in 1985. Larry and Greg Tillian had to put up with me for twenty shifts. I could not have asked for a better trainer. Larry was very intense with his patient care and documentation but had a great sense of humor. On thing that I remember is that he would take so ling on documentation that we would not make it to bed…..ever. Twenty shifts and I never made it upstairs to my bed.

I met Larry in the DT in 1980. We car pooled and we became study partners. Without Larry’s help I wouldn’t have passed the DT or Paramedic school. He was the kindest, most caring, most competent man I’ve ever met and never stopped learning or trying to better himself. When I retired, after ten years of writing the Chaplain Corner for the Grapevine, Larry presented me with a binder in which he had saved every article I’d written! I treasure our friendship and thank God for the blessing His was to my life and family! May God hold you in His loving arms, Larry.

I had the honor of training Larry. I nicknamed him Lawrence of Boyle Heights when we worked at FS 2. The news of his passing leaves me saddened but the fact that he went on to become a trainer fills my heart with joy and pride.
What impressed me most about Larry was that he had such a tremendous heart and empathy for all those he was called to help.
God Bless and keep you close forever.
