John was a great man, firefighter, friend, handball player, and cook. I enjoyed working with him at old Fs 2. RIP.

Met John in 1975 when I was a rookie at 2. Never kept in contact with him after being there just a few months. Isn’t funny, how you still remember a person after having crossed their path many years ago? John was a great guy. I think it was his calm and friendly demeanor. I can still hear his laugh. Thank you for having had an influence on me Johnny. My sincere condolences to your family and God Bless you.

Met John at old 2’s in 1984. Very nice man who taught me quite a bit about firefighting. John was quite the accomplished cook/chef. You would see him in the kitchen for only about an hour and whip up the most incredible meals. He was gifted. John, you were one in a million. RIP brother.
Dick Alder says
It was always a pleasure to work with John at 2’s on the C shift. He did it all from cooking to firefighting, oh, did I mention handball, we all learned some tricks from John!
Miss you me compadre, RIP!

Thank you gents for the kind words. He was everything you’ve expressed and a great father. He really enjoyed working with all of you and the main reason he liked to cook so much was he hated doing dishes!
Thanks again,
Bob Chavez
