I worked with John at 89’s for my 6-7 years on the Dept. We had some great times together and he helped keep the station running smoothly. To say it was devastating to hear of his passing would be a huge understatement. He was truly one of the great ones to be around…fun when its called for and serious when its needed, and a hell of a good firefighter and officer. Our loss here on earth is definitely heavens gain. My sincere condolences to Michelle, Paige, Derek and the rest of the Ruedy family. It was an honor working with John and he will be sorely missed. May peace be with all of you.

I had the pleasure of working with John several times throughout my career. You will not find a better man. He had impeccable character and he was a great firefighter. Such a loss is unfathomable but I take comfort knowing that he is with our Father in Heaven. I offer my heartfelt condolences to John’s family.

I had the honor of working along side John and being his friend, We met at Fire Station 11 where I was the Apparatus Operator and he was the Engineer, We had a great team there, one of the most memorable of my career, John and I became very close as he always joked with me why I spend so much time polishing the diamond plate on Truck 11 and if you know John and how clean he was, Engine 11 wasn’t far behind. I kept telling him the reason was so he can always see the shine of Truck 11 while he was responding behind me. John and I studied for Captain I together, I had it made, having one of the most organized person I knew, Our families vacationed together and for the wives we told them it was a vacation, for John and I it was our study retreat facilitated by Tim Ernst and his family.

Thank you for the great times Ruedy and Ernst family boating and camping, John was a true family man, dedicated to Michelle and a great father to Paige and Derek.. Michelle, Paige and Derek, John will be missed by this family as well, He was a one of a kind man. He was taken way to early but I know he was proud and will continue looking down and smiling at the loves of his life. I will miss you John as my eyes water with disbelief. Rest in Peace my friend.

Remember John as a new CI working at FS66 and again at USAR. Awesome loyal soldier and confidant. Wade White and I would always run stuff by him and he had the answers. Sad to here of his passing. (Found this out from my Burbank FD nephew). Thanks for the memories John. God Bless

I worked with John at 89s though he was on a different shift. Always positive and all around great guy!
He took great pleasure in teasing me as an A/O trying to learn the front office job while studying for Captain. He always took the time to assist anyone who needed help.
My sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

John Ruedy is one of the hardest and most diligent persons I’ve ever worked around. It was a true honor to have him close by at FS 88. We had great discussions about everything and his dedication to all his members is admirable. He will be missed dearly.
