I was very privileged to drive Cap Charles on W-33. He was a great Captain to work for. He taught us all what hard work really meant. As a result of a life of that work, he had a worn out back. On the shift that put him into retirement, we had multiple structures going, and he pulled and manned a 2-1/2″ by himself. That hose line was what stopped the advance to more exposures. From time to time, he would agree to come into 33’s for lunch. May God bless the Charles family in this time of grief

Great tribute, Bud. From our talk earlier this afternoon I could not only sense your sadness, but the high esteem in which you held your cherished friend, Capt James N. Charles.

Any friend of yours is a friend of mine. RIP Cappy.
