Worked with Jim at Fire Station 57, I was driving Batt.13 at the time. Jim was an outstanding Fire Officer and a gentleman. Around the station Jim treated me like one of the family. No matter how many runs he had I never heard Jim complain. God knows I did, having to move the sedan on every run the Engine had.

My condolences to all the Family.

Jim Maza was the Captain on the A shift at old 57s he was true gentleman always a smile on his face and a pleasure to work with. Jim and Charlie Mackie were good friends working on opposite shifts always fun watching them at relief. Jim had a lot of time on the job lived in Visalia if I recall and working at that time on one of the busiest triples in the City. That was dedication R.I.P Jim.

Jim, I was sad when I read of your passing. We work together at the West Lake Signal Office and when we went to OCD in the 1970’s. The old timers said the move would be a disaster and truly it was. You made the best of it. You were one of the person who was teaching us how to use the new CAD system. You were always so positive even when things were not going well. Thank you for kindness and great attitude. You were truly one of the good guys. RIP my friend. Duane Warth, LAFD ret.
