I played golf with Gene many times, but never worked with him. Good golfer & a funny guy.
Went through the training tower with him.
Bob Munoa says
14’s and 2’s were in the same Battalion for a few years. We would get a detail from 2’s every so often and many times it was Gene Lackey and Juan Ojeda. What a pair! Always enjoyed their humor and banter, Good memories of both of them. The Munoa family send their condolences to the Lackey
Family.

Gene was one of the many outstanding personalities at F.S. 2. I worked with him on the “B” in the early 70’s. He was always fun to be around.. I have so many pleasant memories of the time and legends that worked there at the time of which Gene was one. RIP Gene.
ED Tapia says
As a rookie going through 2’s, it was an eye opener for me as a young firefighter. The likes of Gene, Dickie Alder, Bob Hamilton, Juan Ojeda, and Willie Kesson there was never a dull moment. The one thing I remember was no matter what was going on, everything stopped when ” The Days Of our lives” was on. I never could get over how a bunch of men got so into the soap opera. Rest In Peace.
