Ed (fast Eddie) was my Captain up on the hill, and I will always remember him as being a very knowledgeable, friendly skipper. He had a very humble and humerous way about him that made you enjoy being around him. He was missed when he retired from the job, and will be missed as a great person on earth. Rest in peace Ed. George DeMott
I worked with Ed when we lived in Leona Valley and were trying to carve out a spot there. We were the pioneers out there along with Chuck Hamlin and his family. I also worked with Ed at 27’s where he became Fire Commissioner Fred Klein’s favorite driver at night. They travelled around the city waiting for a Fire to be reported so they could respond. Ole Olson used to get on the intercom at 27’s and sing a song entitled ” Freddie and Eddie are buddies”. The world will miss a really nice guy.
When my brother and I were kids, we would stay with a wonderful family that lived in Leona Valley ca. The Phelps Family. What made it special is my brother and I are black…and the phelps Family were the kindest people and I never forgot them. Could this be the Mr. Phelps that left a great and wonderful lasting impression in a young kids mind? He was a Fireman and he would be up in age now because now I’m 54 years old now. I Just want to say if this is the phelps
Thank you Mr. PHELPS. May the peace of our Lord be upon the Phelps family.
