A true gentleman. Always thinking about the troops.
Hi Paul ,this is Dudley’s son Steve .You are right , he was alway’s thinking of the troops and hated having to discipline them .But as a Chief sometimes one needs to do that and as such creates some hard feelings . He worked as hard helping others study as he did studying himself .If I made a list of all of the things that he either invented , improved or came up with, it would be long….Very long. And most people don’t know about all of this .As you can tell ,I loved and respected him . Thanks so much for the comment ! .
Dudley was my Mother’s first cousin. He leaves a legacy of firefighters. We enjoyed a visit from Dudley here in Albuquerque several years ago. I was pleased when he gave me an LAFD cap. Still have it. My condolences to his family.
Thanks for the comment Jim .He told me about that trip and said he really enjoyed it .I have the last LAFD hat that he wore .He always wore them wherever he was .He was so proud of the Department . I am his son Steve 949-487-7882.
Steve, my mother, Aneita Ruth Parks was a cousin to your mother. She was a Sandel, her mom a Baird. I remember uncle Duff and aunt Alice, which was my grandmother’s sister.
Hi Joel ,
Duff and Alice were my Grandparents on my mothers side .Duff was adopted and Alice was a Baird . They were a hoot !! . My mom was Dorothy (or Dottie) .
Dudley was my dad . He taught me many things as I was growing up and beyond……A GREAT work ethic ,Humility ,Be serious when necessary and know how to have fun when it’s time to have fun , be a gentleman and treat women as they should be treated . Little things like walking on the street side of the sidewalk when walking with a woman , opening doors ,introducing them…On and on .As far as the Fire Dept , he loved it .Being a product of the depression , He was always studying to improve himself and helping other firemen in their quest to promote . He put the fire in me and one of our son’s to be firemen and we both are . He was as tough as they come and was the first to tear up when it came to family ,the country and the Fire Dept .He believed in God and is looking down at us as I write this .Godspeed dad,I’ll see you soon….Steve
