Don made more money as a building contractor than as a fireman and I think our then Chief Shultz had a little problem with that. After Don recovered a lost paycheck (that was replaced) he stood out in front of 75’s lighting his cigar with it as the Chief drove up.
Don built places for people that made several changes during the process and he would charge them extra. When they got the bill they would hire a lawyer and so would Don for his defense. His lawyer came by the fire station in a new Lincoln and said thanks for buying me this car Don! This was around 1975 and we were a sleepy hollow.
