Donald Engh , our father loved his family and his LAFD family . A child of the Great Depression he left Manual Arts High School and joined the Army Air Corps becoming a B-25 bomber pilot in the Pacific Theatre of operation, Dad always looked on the bright side and lived a very long and happy life .
Pop was hired by the LAFD in 1947 and served for 31 years .
He truly upheld his membership in the Greatest Generation and its our job now to support his legacy .

Thanks for being such a good man Dad .

I did not know your Dad. I joined the Department about a year before he left. I worked with and was mentored by the men of the “Greatest Generation” like him. They were not looking for what was owed them and I don’t think they even felt that anything was owed. Be good at your trade, be trusted by your brother firefighter work hard and don’t show weakness. My Dad was also a WW II vet and of course I knew everything. I am sure that your Father and the others of his generation just watched us and shook their heads. Sorry for your loss.
