I was saddened to learn of the passing of Batt Chief Don Grant. I spoke to him recently and all was well. His untimely end happened fast. I’ve known Don for many years and have many great memories of our times together at both work and play. He was an incredibly hard worker at either firefighting or his side job of landscaping. Many don’t know that he won many prestigious landscape architecture awards for homes and businesses that he designed and built. Or, that he also helped many a fireman with the design of the landscape and hardscape for their homes. He was also there to help them put in sprinklers, plants, trees and grass. He did it all and he never charged his fellow firemen because he was that kind of guy. You just had to make sure there was a cold beer waiting when the day’s work was completed. I’ll always remember his generosity and his passion for life. I can see him now with a cup of black coffee in his left hand and a cigarette in his right, laughing with that hardy laugh he had. I lost a good friend but I’ve not lost the great memories. Rest in peace Don. Life well lived.

I have known Don for many years and we have kept in touch despite being retired many miles apart. I was saddened to hear that he wasn’t doing well and hurt to hear that he had passed. We have had numerous conversations thru the years about many subjects sometimes agreeing sometimes not. I will miss these conversations and him going forward.May he rest in peace.
