Doak Smith stated that the member has an autistic child and has been going through a lawsuit with their school district for their child’s education. He indicated that the family has been assisted with advancement in the amount of $47,421 and stated that they have not yet made any payments towards the loan. It was reported that the member lost his school district court case on all counts and are going to appeal. He mentioned that the member appeared with his attorney before the Relief Committee to request an additional $30K for their appeal.
Doak Smith motioned that the Relief Committee recommends that they grant the additional $30K requested on the basis that the member begin payment on the initial $47K loan through payroll deduction. He indicated that it was up to the member to agree to the terms for the additional requested loan amount. He referred to the letter written to the member with the Committee’s terms. Tim Larson stated that the repayment of the additional $30K would be held in abeyance until the appeal was complete. There was no further discussion or objections.
Motion carried to grant the additional $30K on the basis that the member begin payment on the initial $47K loan through payroll deduction.
