Paige Tabing
Paige Tabing, a graduate of Los Alamitos High School is the proud recipient of a 2011 Relief Scholarship. She is pursuing a degree from San Diego State University and considering a course of study in Communications and Entertainment.
Having always been taught to give back to the community by her parents, Paige says she is grateful to have been selected for this scholarship by the LAFRA so that she can use it in a positive way and is thankful to be part of the LAFD family.
Paige was involved in community service through the KEY Club in high school. She also volunteered as part of Habitat for Humanity, was part of the National Honors Society and was on the honor roll her first semester, making Principal’s Honor Roll every semester after that. In sports, Tabing was a multi-usage basketball player for the Varsity girls’ squad, playing most positions on the floor and in track and field, she ran the 110 and 300 m hurdles. She was awarded the Scholar-Athlete distinction her final year in high school. Alongside endeavors in school, she was even involved with a professional Polynesian-Tahitian style dance team throughout her sophomore and junior years.
Paige also was a member of the Japanese Club as well as the Japanese Honors Society. In an extremely rare opportunity for high school students, Tabing participated in a home-study program in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan, just southwest of Tokyo, during the summer and fall of 2009.

What did receiving a scholarship through the LA Firemen’s Relief Association mean to you?
“I was very excited to have won it especially seeing how stiff my competition was. Any money really helps a lot so I am very grateful.”
How will this scholarship help you in your own education and in making a difference in the community?
“It’s definitely going to help me further my education because I believe that a little money goes a long way. Also, I think that by furthering my own education I should be able to then help the people and community around me.”
