LA Firemen's Relief Association

Since 1906, Los Angeles City Firefighters have entrusted the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association to be there for them and those they leave behind.

The needs of our firefighters are unique because the profession poses many dangers and consequences. Founded on the mission of "firefighters helping firefighters," the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association offers programs and assistance for firefighters and their families.

The Association offers many benefits to its members through the LAFRA Fire Medical Plan, Relief Fund, Life & Accident Fund and the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund.

*Below are actual letters written from members of the Relief Association.

Dear LAFRA:

Please accept this donation to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund in appreciation for the motorized lift chair you sent to us for my husband, retired Capt. Leo Christensen. He has had trouble getting up and down and out of chairs with his illness.

The chair has been a great help to him. Leo has always been proud to have been a fireman, and we as a family are proud to be part of the “fire family.” Thank you.

Most Sincerely,
Leo and Patsy Christensen

Dear LAFRA:

Please accept our gratitude and so many thanks for the support and caring help we received from everyone at the Relief Association, and especially Ana Salazar and Andy Kuljis during the long difficult illness and passing on December 17, 2008 of my husband and our Dad/Papa, Robert (Bob) Coffman.

At a time when we were at our wits end about what to do to care for Bob/Dad at home, Ana and Andy, and also Monique Duarte at PS Medical Supplies, were there to offer help. Offering a listening ear and shoulder to cry on, and then to organize and deliver any medical supplies we needed to help care for Dad immediately – even personally installing a wheelchair lift on a weekend many miles from home.

So again, when we were told “Los Angeles Firemen take care of their own.” YES, yes they do and for that, we are eternally grateful.

Carmen Coffman and Family
Santa Paula, CA
