Change of Beneficiary

With life changes, it is important to ensure your beneficiary form is kept up-to-date. At the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association, we have had some experiences with families that have been upset when benefits from a loved one had to be paid to someone other than a family member.

Once signed by the member, the law requires us to dispense the benefit as designated on the beneficiary form.

If you wish your heirs to share your benefit, you must state exactly how you want it divided on the beneficiary form – this will be the determining factor of distribution. *A family Trust or Will cannot preempt a beneficiary form.

If you experience a life-changing event, such as the birth of a child, marriage or divorce, change of significant other, it is highly suggested to review your current beneficiary form on file and make any changes as needed.
